Since beginning his ‘Our NHS, Our future’ review, Lord Darzi has met around 1,500 front line staff from across the NHS. Along with his team of clinicians, he also hosted a day of nationwide engagement events attended by members of the public and NHS staff, to hear their views on how the NHS can deliver the best quality patient care into the 21st century. He is also using online channels to engage with the public and taking into consideration people’s views from online forums such as NetMums.Launching his report Lord Darzi said: ‘Over the last three months, I have spoken to patients, the public and NHS staff and received thousands of letters and emails to inform the review.
‘This interim report is the result of my discussions and sets out a vision for the next phase of the NHS. This vision for the future should not be just mine ‘ or the Government’s - but a vision for the future of health and healthcare in England that is developed and owned by patients, staff and public together.
‘This is not about imposing more change from the centre. Effective change needs to be led locally, driven by clinicians and others working in partnership across the service, based on the best available evidence, using the latest technological innovations and responding to the needs of local communities.’
‘My interim report marks the beginning of the next and most important stage of the review: developing the vision into a meaningful set of plans for the future.
‘The focus of this work will be clinical working groups for every region of the country, looking at the issues that people are most interested in and developing plans that will be owned by patients, staff and public together.’
